When DSPs only had to worry about configuring Internet and maybe phone or cable TV, it was possible to have a relatively simple approach to installation and activation of products. Both analog telephony and cable TV were low maintenance products generating little in the way of support issues. Internet provision and support was more complex but without tiered product offerings even these products were reasonably straight forward.

Today’s digital home requires an altogether more sophisticated approach. Products such as DTV and VoIP can be complex to install and support.
